Temporary Health Insurance
Temporary health insurance is important to obtain between jobs or if you just graduated school and you have a waiting period on your employer’s health insurance to start. It typically lasts from 30 days to 6 months and can become effective within a day.
Temporary health insurance gives you the peace of mind to know that it is okay if you get sick and you need medical attention. It would be very stressful for anyone to think that they could not receive medical attention, because they have to wait one month before they are insured under their company’s policy. If you wait to apply for a plan after you are sick and hurt, you won’t be able to get the coverage you need and it would be very expensive to get medical care. Without temporary insurance, you would to have to pay out of pocket fees if any need for health care arose.
Temporary health insurance policies do not include the same benefits as long term health insurance policies. Temporary polices are to make sure that you get coverage due to an injury or illness and can include coverage for regular routine checkups like dentist visits or any vision benefits.
If you reach the end of your temporary policy, you need to contact your insurance company and re-apply for the policy. You also need to contact your insurance company if you are in the middle of your temporary insurance policy and you are approved for permanent health insurance. It is more beneficial to start the permanent health insurance policy and drop the temporary insurance.
